Independent Cattlemen of Wyoming has fulfilled a directive of their members with formal election of a board of directors and member approval of more than a dozen resolutions to guide ICOW policy in the future.

“This is a grass-roots, member-driven, member led organization. The officers are elected and the policy is set by ICOW members.  We’re proud of the fact that ICOW is a truly member-driven outfit,” stated newly elected board president Judy McCullough of Moorcroft.

Policy Resolutions voted on by the ICOW members included support for competitive agricultural market reforms to bring fairness back to the livestock industry and cattle producers, brucellosis testing for wildlife in NW Wyoming. There are also several initiatives accepted on reinforcement and protection of private property rights.  Resolutions were passed in opposition to mandated animal I.D. programs, the importation of cattle over thirty months of age and live cattle or beef products from any known BSE country. ICOW resolutions urge more stringent standards for cattle imports under the OTM rule.

ICOW members also chose to affiliate with R-Calf USA and made clarifications that NCBA does not represent the views of this growing producer organization.

Newly elected directors are Charlie Stevenson and Taylor Haynes in District 1, Les Dunmire and Lisle Munroe District 2, Eric Barlow and LJ Turner in District 4,  President Judy McCullough and Treasurer Ed Perry in District 6 and Vice President Bill Garland and Russell Bell for District 7.

“This ten month old Independent Cattlemen of Wyoming can be proud of the members of the great state of Wyoming for giving of their strength to build this membership organization in such a short time.  We’ve got some dedicated producers working hard to grow this organization and we look forward to a successful future for ICOW,” McCullough stated proudly.

Board members will start their terms immediately and serve for staggered 3 year terms.  Unfilled positions remain open for an ICOW district in the Big Horn Basin and another in the four western Wyoming counties of Uinta, Lincoln, Sublette and Teton.    The ICOW Board is accepting nominations to fill these remaining two board positions as soon as possible.

Interested producers are reminded to watch for state-wide ICOW meetings and membership drives as well as a fundraising raffle for beef donated by Stevenson’s Double S Livestock Feeders to be awarded at Powder River Angus bull sale at Spotted Horse on Jan. 26.
